The Lowdown Golf dashboard on a phone: a Handicap Index of 23.6, down 0.5 in 90 days, rounds, holes, best and average differentials, and the index over time.

Every round you play says something about your game. Lowdown Golf keeps the card, works out your handicap and shows you exactly where the shots are going.

Everything a scorecard can tell you, and then some

Lowdown Golf is built around the round you actually played: every hole, every putt, every tee shot. Here's what it does with it.

A caddie in your pocket

Press Play on the first tee and the hole map turns to face the green. Lowdown Golf knows where you're standing and keeps up as you walk.

  • Front, centre and back yardages to every green, updating as you move.
  • Carry and front distances to bunkers and water, so you know what's in play.
  • Live wind on every hole, and whether it's helping or into you.
  • Club suggestions from your own bag, using the distances you really hit.
  • Moves to the next hole on its own when you walk onto the next tee.
  • Tap anywhere to measure a layup, and the screen stays on while you play.
The Play screen on the first at Morley Hayes: a target dragged 257 yards up the fairway, driver suggested at a 95% swing, 109 yards left with a pitching wedge, front, centre and back yardages and the carries over the water.

Your handicap, worked out the WHS way

Lowdown Golf uses the World Handicap System method, so your number tracks what your club would give you. It isn't an official index: that still comes from your club and national golf body.

  • Best 8 of your last 20 score differentials, with the WHS table for golfers who have fewer than 20 rounds.
  • Net double bogey applied hole by hole with the index you had on the day, so editing an old round recalculates correctly.
  • Nine-hole rounds use the front or back nine ratings when the course has them.
  • Plan your next round: your course handicap for any tee, the score that holds your index and the score that hits your target.
  • What drops off next: see which score leaves your 20-round window and whether it was counting.
  • Target tracking with a projection from your last six months.

Stats that tell you what to practise

Mark each tee shot and count your putts as you go. Lowdown Golf does the rest, then ranks what to work on by the shots it's costing you.

  • Fairways and miss direction: does it go left, right, or get topped? It even names a hook or a slice from your hand.
  • Greens in regulation worked out from your score and putts, plus three-putts, scrambling and sand saves.
  • Par 3, 4 and 5 scoring, your hardest holes, front versus back nine, and your best and worst five-round stretches.
  • Tips drawn from your own rounds, biggest saving first, with the numbers behind them.
  • Your year in golf: a wrapped-style review of the season and a page of personal records.
Putting~1.4 shots / round

Too many three-putts

One green in eight ends in three putts, against one in twenty for a 10 handicap.

Spend ten minutes on lag putts from 30 feet before each round. Aim to leave every one inside a tap-in circle.

Questions

Is my handicap official?

No. Lowdown Golf works it out with the World Handicap System method, so it should track your club's number closely, but it isn't an official Handicap Index. Only your club and national golf body issue that, so keep posting your qualifying scores with them.

Does it work without signal?

Yes. Lowdown Golf opens offline with your last data, and scores you enter without signal wait on your phone and post themselves when you're back in range.

Who can see my rounds?

Only you and the friends you accept. Courses are shared so everyone benefits from the yardages and ratings, but your rounds and stats are yours.

What happens to my data if I leave?

Export your whole history as a CSV at any time. The same file imports back in without duplicates.

Will I have to pay?

Not now. Everything is free during early access. When Pro launches, keeping a handicap, posting rounds and playing with friends stay free.
